Compact Housing Retroreflective & Diffuse Scan Can be installed where space is the limiting factor but the versatility of a barrel sensor is still required. Available in either NPN or PNP complementary (SPDT) outputs. Incorporated in this is the ability to use the N/C output as an N/O alarm output. The alarm output operates when the sensor’s excess gain in the light condition becomes marginal (drops to 1-1.5x). The load for both outputs must not exceed 150mA. The fixed field units compare the reflection of the sensor’s emitted light beam from an object to two differently aimed detectors in the sensor head. This enables the sensors to detect an object that is only a short distance directly in front of another object or background, this distance can be as low as a few mm Retro-reflective models have a special lens which polarises the emitted light and filters out unwanted reflections, making these sensors useable in applications otherwise unsuited to retro-reflective sensing. Subminiature Style Diffuse, Background Suppression These units are part of a family of diffuse sensors that use the technique of Background Suppression to minimise the risk of false switching caused by reflected light from objects beyond the target. This is achieved using a method known as the 'Triangulation Principle' which, affectively, focusses the light beam onto the target at a preset distance. The reflected light is picked up by a series of receiving elements within the unit and an output is given. Should the target move and a reflection obtained from an object further away than the preset distance, the angle of received light will change. This in turn will change the output given by the receiving elements and the unit will not respond. Housed in a subminiature plastic case, these units are supplied pre-cabled and complete with a mounting bracket. Powered by 10-30VDC the units are available in NPN or PNP N/O output configuration. They feature adjustable sensing distance, LED output status indication and pulsed visible red beam (to allow for simple installation). Sealed to IP65 with short circuit and reverse polarity protection, these units would be ideal in 'look-down' positions on conveyor belts where space is restricted, counting applications or presence detection on bowl feeders etc. Two styles of miniature background suppression units from this product family are also available in different sizes and can be found elsewhere in this section.
